1. University of Melbourne

The University of Melbourne offers a range of scholarships for international students, particularly through its graduate research programs. Eligible research students may receive tuition-fee support and living allowances depending on the scholarship.

2. University of Sydney

The University of Sydney offers scholarships for international students across different study levels. Its research scholarship pathways can provide substantial financial support, including tuition coverage and living stipends for eligible higher-degree research students.

3. University of Queensland

The University of Queensland provides scholarships for international students, including graduate research scholarships associated with Australia’s Research Training Program.

4. Monash University

Monash University offers several scholarships for international students. Its International Leadership Scholarship, for example, can cover 100% of tuition fees for eligible students, although living and accommodation costs are not covered by that particular scholarship.

5. Australian National University

Australia Awards for Nigerian Students

Another important pathway is the Australia Awards Africa program.

Who Can Apply?

Every scholarship has its own eligibility criteria, but applicants may generally need:

• Strong academic qualifications
• An eligible academic program
• Proof of English proficiency where required
• Academic transcripts
• A valid international passport
• Personal statement or statement of purpose
• Recommendation letters
• Research proposal for research programs
• Relevant professional experience for some scholarships

Some government-funded programs have additional requirements.

For example, the 2027 Australia Awards Africa intake required eligible applicants to be at least 25 years old, have at least five years of relevant postgraduate work experience and be employed when applying, alongside other country-specific requirements. DFAT

Scholarships Don’t Always Mean “Everything Is Free”

This is an important distinction.

A 100% tuition scholarship means tuition fees may be completely covered, but it does not necessarily mean that accommodation, food, flights, visa costs and other expenses are included.

For example, UNSW’s International Scientia Coursework Scholarship can provide full tuition coverage, while Monash’s International Leadership Scholarship covers tuition but not accommodation or living expenses. UNSW Scholarships
